Student research assistant position in DFG-funded project

7-10 hours/week; Deadline: 15. September 2022; Start: October 2022

The Chair of Science and Technology Policy at the Department of Science, Technology and Society (STS) is
searching for a student research assistant to support the DFG-funded project led by Dr. Susanne Koch. The
position is to be filled from October.

About the project

The project “In-Forest: a multi-method empirical study of inequality and its epistemic effects in forest research”
seeks to enhance the understanding of how dimensions of inequality in academia intersect and impact on
knowledge production, using forest science as empirical case. It is funded by the German Research Foundation
(DFG) and involves international collaboration with partners at the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and
Technology (CREST, Stellenbosch University, South Africa), the Centre for Science and Technology Studies
(CWTS, Leiden University, The Netherlands) and the Tanzania Forestry Research Institute (TAFORI).

Tasks

Supporting the project team with:

  • creating and managing the project homepage
  • assistance in data collection through desk research
  • systematic sourcing and screening/review of academic literature and policy documents
  • assistance in transcription of interviews (English and German)
  • assistance in data management, preparation and coding
  • assistance in organising travels and meetings
  • proof-reading and formatting of texts (English and German)

 

Qualifications and requirements:

  • ability to work independently in a structured manner and to deliver assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • reliable, accurate and proactive style of working
  • interest in research activities and the themes of the project
  • experience in web design/the creation of homepages
  • good command of Microsoft Office
  • very good English language skills (spoken and written), German skills are an asset
  • basic knowledge of social science (qualitative) research
  • former transcription experience advantageous but not a necessity
  • enrolment in a Bachelor or Master study program at the TUM or another German university

Working hours:

The working hours will be 7-10 hours per week.

  • the duration of employment will be discussed as part of the job interview.
