To Go or Not to Go

Different drinking cultures have been evolving for hundreds of years. Today, the very common ritual of everyday life is shaped by our way of living: we can just grab a drink and enjoy it on the way. It’s easy, it’s convenient, it saves our precious time. How did it actually happen that the ritual of sitting down to have a tea or a coffee turned into a takeaway thing? Is the time running so fast that we cannot even enjoy our drinks at home anymore? And, can the takeaway drinking culture have wider implications on us, our society, and our environment? By starting to ask ourselves these questions, our idea of the podcast was born. We decided to take a step back and think about what we are actually holding in our hands when trying to fit our drinks into our busy lives. With environmental awareness – and to-go cups being made of paper or plastic – alternatives started to appear: bring your own cup, implement a recup system, ban to-go cups! However, what’s the best alternative? Is there a better choice for everyone? We kept on digging and we found out that not only our environment is being compromised, but different drinking habits are also at stake. Would we enjoy our drinks differently if we weren’t compromised by the busy every day life? Do we actually enjoy every kind of to-go drink? And why do we do it in the first place?
