Earlier Menarche – the Cost of Bleeding

The age of menarche has been falling in Europe since the 19th century: While girls were 17 years old at the time, girls today have their first period with an average age of 12. Our research group was interested in the causes for the earlier menarche as well as its social and health effects on girls and society. We interviewed experts of the field and read through existing literature, talked about our own experiences among the four of us, with friends and family. In our podcast we want to share our surprising findings with you, start a discussion and lift the taboo on this important and deeply structural topic.
