STS and Bioethics: Forging New Synergies for Exploring the Potentials and Pitfalls of Public Engagement with New Biotechnologies
In their recent peer commentary “STS and Bioethics: Forging New Synergies for Exploring the Potentials and Pitfalls of Public Engagement with New Biotechnologies”, Ruth Müller, Amy Clare and Anja Ruess call for a transdisciplinary exchange about public engagement with emerging technologies. Based on the increasing debate about public engagement in the field of Bioethics, the authors highlight how the rich history of analyzing public engagement in STS can enrich current debates in other fields and create synergies between researchers. This commentary builds on research conducted as part of the FORTiGe project, generously funded by the Bayerische Forschungsstiftung, as well as the SCALINGS project, generously funded by European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Science with and for Society (SwafS) program under grant agreement no. 788359.
