Summer 2023 Doctoral Colloquium with Maarten Hajer and Jeroen Oomen
On June 2nd, the TUM STS Department hosted one of the most important events of the academic year: The doctoral colloquium. Every semester, the department’s postgraduate students get the opportunity to present the stage of their work in front of a large, interdisciplinary audience, including the candidate’s supervisors and other professors, post-doctoral fellows, and their peers. Our guest from Utrecht, Professor Maarten Hajer, gave a keynote lecture on how dramaturgy in politics plays a role in future-making. The day before, our guest Professor Jeroen Oomen, also with an academic home in Utrecht, offered a workshop for doctoral candidates to reflect on their work concerning the topic of future-making. After the colloquium, Maarten Hajer and Jeroen Oomen discussed their current book project on the politics of future-making with the department and outlined future collaborations.
The talks of the colloquium presented a variety of topics at the department, from AI (Dominic Lammar) over gerontology (Katja Rießenberger) to innovation in administration (Luise Ruge). The discussions after the presentations and during the breaks provided room for fruitful exchange. The ongoing discourses showcased the intellectual value of this department-wide highlight of the year. A special thanks goes to the organizing team of the colloquium, Akanksha Bisoyi, Dr Joakim Juhl, Dominic Lammar, and Jasmin Shokoui as well as to Prof. Silke Beck for the organizing and hosting of the workshop and discussion round with our guests.
