Doctorate completed

On August 6, 2020, Sandra Lang successfully completed the oral examination for her doctorate, in which she dealt with “Chiral Worlds. MCTS perspectives on the shifting fields of chemistry.”

Sandra Lang’s dissertation, a sociological case study, is dedicated to the molecular property of chirality and deals with the disciplinary dynamics of the scientific fields of chemistry in times of shifting dispositives of innovation. Materials sciences, biomedicine, pharmacy and quantum chemistry account as examples for hybrid border fields of chemistry where the boundary work of the chemical and non-chemical has been investigated. The thesis shows, that chemistry is continually losing epistemic authority over the molecular world since physical and biological conceptions of the molecule are gaining influence.

Congratulations to the future Dr. rer. soc.!
