Doctorate completed

On June 8, 2020, Laura Voss successfully completed the oral examination for her doctorate, in which she dealt with “Robots Wanted – Dead And/Or Alive. The Attribution of In/Animacy to Robot Technology.”

Laura Voss’ dissertation examines practices of attribution if animacy and inanimacy to robot technology in a range of contexts (science fiction, sociotechnical imaginaries, research, development, demonstrations, science communication, marketing, media discourse, political discourse). It finds that attributions of animacy and inanimacy are constantly switched, that they always have a context-specific motivation and constructive quality, and that they are the subject of a critical discourse

Congratulations to the future Dr. phil.!
