Doctorate completed

On September 29, 2021 Santiago Orrego successfully completed the oral examination for his doctorate, in which he dealt with „Mirrors and Labyrinths, Learning from Times Square how to make an urban-MCTS ethnography“.

Santiago Orrego’s research, lying in between Urban Studies and Studies of Science and Technology, is an ethnography of Times Square in New York City and the different controversies that resulted before, during, and after its pedestrianization prozess in 2009. He went to Times Square to see what kind of semiotic-material resources, strategies, and methods he could get from that place to grasp and represent the location itself. The main question that shaped this process was: what can MCTS learn from Times Square for doing (urban) ethnography?

Congratulations to the future Dr. phil.!
