Doctorate completed

On December 9, 2020, Georgia Samaras successfully completed the oral examination for her doctorate, in which she dealt with „Re-Enacting Stress in the Lab. On Environmental Epigenetics, Social Adversity and the Molecularisation of Mental Health.“

Georgia’s dissertation investigates environmental epigenetics as an emerging style of thought within biomedical research on mental health. From a Science & Technology Studies perspective, it analyses how knowledge propositions from epigenetics are adopted in mental health research with cell models, animal models and clinical studies. j The main argument is that epigenetics as an epistemic object is configured differently along these three research arrangements, each with different socio-political implications. The thesis shows how epigenetics might change the epistemology of the life sciences and our social science understanding of the biological laboratory.

Congratulations to the future Dr. phil.!
